Busy Busy Busy. Let’s Lay It Out
My brain’s usually a pretty busy place, working on a few different interrelated things at once. Right now I’m feeling pretty bottlenecked and dizzy so I’m gonna lay out what’s up and needs done in the next 2 weeks. *deep breaths* This is sort of a public to do list, and if there’s something you want to help with, please let me know.
Imagination Station:
We’ve got some big things needing done at the Imagination Station. On the 28th of August we’re hosting an amazing concert with the Spencer Barefield Quartet. This is the first event we’re pre-selling tickets for and need to get our promote on. We have a limited number of $10 tickets right here (and a couple extra sauce levels). Here’s the Facebook event page, check out the video below, and we’re also looking for some modest financial sponsors for this and future events (let’s partner up if you’re interested).
We’re double also looking for more volunteers who can pitch in to help with some campus clean up and updates before then. If you have a couple of hours this week or next, please let me know. We’ve been busting our butts this past year cleaning everything out that needs to go, while working on programming, designs, funding routes etc. I swear, blighted properties are like clown cars: you think there can’t possibly be any more junk inside but it keeps piling out while random weeds and debris stand by laughing at you.
There’s also some more RoboCop statue production wrangling. Hopefully some new updates soon, sort of waiting for some pieces to fall into place while we finish up what we can to prep right now.
LOVELAND:
At LOVELAND Technologies we’re working on a couple of client projects around mapping and socially interacting with neighborhoods in Detroit. They’re really cool, but I don’t think I can say what they are yet because that’s up to the clients. We are also independently mapping out foreclosure properties coming up for auction at the 2011 Wayne County tax foreclosure auction. That one’s really interesting and potentially very powerful because we’re trying to create a communication channel around the properties. Usually auctions are dark systems where you have no idea who is interested in a property or what the story of the place is. We’re building it out so people with local knowledge can get more involved, reducing the amount of distant speculation and hopefully helping create a healthier, more collaborative outcome.
If you want to help beta test and provide feedback on that, we’re ready for it. Just ask.
From the other side of the LOVELAND universe, the Detroit Vs Painting painting is done! It looks amazing (Ryan rocks) and will be unveiled online soon before it makes its way to Detroit. Right now Brad is working on turning it into a playable game that will also have a fundraising component. Stay tuned.
Miscellaneous:
My friend James and I are collaborating to test out the new LoudSauce crowdfunded advertisement service to get a work of art up on a billboard. More on that soon…
The last meeting of the Detroit Internet Club with Perry from Kickstarter was awesome. There was a great group there, and decided we needed to create a simple portal for web talent from around the world to saddle up and work on projects in Detroit, matching ideas and entrepreneurs with the talent necessary to pull things off. I want to get back around to that asap and we’re looking for collaborators on it.
I guess that’s it for big stuff, but each of the big stuffs contain lots of small stuffs. Feels good to write it out. Get in touch if there’s anything you want to help on. It’s all really interesting!
