The Big Inch Block Party Rocked. Thank You!!!
So, the first Big Inch Block Party was amazing. Thank you so much to the Synagogue for inviting and hosting us, Cafe d’Mongo’s for partnering, McClure’s Pickles and Betaworks for sponsoring, Valentine Vodka and Motor City Brewing Works for the booze, and iDetroit for helping spread the word. And there are sooo many people who helped out in planning and throughout the night. Read on for more.

We showed up at the party with 300 inch deeds thinking that would probably be enough (we hadn’t done an event like this before…), but we ran out early in the night as people kept coming in. How many people were on the block and in the building over the course of the night? 600? 700? 800? We don’t know exactly, but it was swarming, and it was awesome. With the $1 for 1 inch cover and some extra donations we raised $840 for the Spaulding Court micro grant and the Synagogue. See and donate to the “Rehab Spaulding Court” Kickstarter page here.
We’re still debriefing and enjoying the glow and pulling together pictures and videos and stories from the night, but here are a few from Alan Languirand who also recorded a time-lapse of the band room using Lemon Battery (coming up soon).
Peops hanging out on the street outside the Synagogue with projections playing on the windows compliments of Dan Land and Gabe Hall.

The Band of Lovies (first show!), The Reelers, and Lightning Love rocked out proper over the course of the night.

The Detroit Party Marching Band stormed the floor:

And took it to the streets (video by Rita J King):
Marianne Audrey Burrows painted a celebratory 30’ x 6’ mural live during the party that the Synagogue loves and wants to keep.

Inchy assumed many forms (pro tip: put eyes on anything and it comes alive; put a heart on anything and it has feelings).

And had his face melted by rock. Lightning Love’s guitarist rubs it in:

And of course, after the party…came the after party.

More to come. We’re busy putting our heads together while we’ve got the entire expanded LOVELAND team in from out of town. Tonight we’ll start creating accounts on makeloveland.com for all the people who came through the door and got an inch.
Thank you so much, everybody. That was such a great night with such a great mix of people from around the city. We’ve got to do things like this more often. <3
PS The one downside: We forgot the Detroit Ice Potato at home! Sorry, DIP!
