When Life Hands You Lemons, Make More Lemon Batteries

Yesterday, LOVELAND’s Plymouth property became a crime scene (theft) and a game board (chess). Don’t worry, everything’s OK. I’ll try and explain.

I was driving to Plymouth — LOVELAND’s first 10,000 square inch microhood in Detroit — to install a tiny chess set for a long-distance game with my friend Parker in New York. So, you know…a typical Thursday. But when I rolled up I saw what every mixed-reality micro land baron fears most: someone had vandalized the microhood. To be specific, someone cut down the 21-foot pole and stole the solar panel that was going to power our Project Lemon Battery camera for streaming the property online. @_@

While pondering how to turn this bug into a feature, I took the tiny chess set out of its shrink wrap, placed it on Crazy Company HQ in the shadow of the fallen pole, made my first move — pawn to D3 — and texted it to Parker. Your move, man. Ever played chess under these conditions before? :-)

I also stopped in at Matthew’s car shop across the street to tell him what happened. He’s excited about LOVELAND and offered to let us use his roof for a more secure camera set up. We’ll see what we can all figure out. Have to think about things. Lots (in both senses of the word) on my mind, and lots of possibilities, as always.

Rita posted her thoughts here. To be continued…

PS Marianne’s having trouble with people taking pieces of this new house painting she’s working on. If you see anyone walking around Detroit with a solar panel and/or a square piece of sky, let us know.
