A $50,000 Napkin & A Detroit Music War
Inspired by the RoboCop statue funding and pushing for more crowdfunded alternatives, the Whitdel Arts gallery in Detroit is doing a little showing of $50,000 ideas for Detroit drawn on napkins along with 2 solo shows. The show opens tomorrow, Saturday, April 30th. Here’s my contribution to the show:

And I quote:
The Detroit Bat Signal
High power laser projection system mounted on truck. Projects colors, shapes, and in the right conditions words onto the sky, visible for miles. Draws attention and attracts people to places + events.
Wouldn’t that be awesome? I often see the UFO-like spotlights hovering over Detroit coming from Caesars across the river in Windsor, Canada. Always makes me wanna write on the ceiling too, but way better. I’ve been doing some research and have found some cool stuff with lasers in the sky like this (from here):

Dropping the lasers and a zero off the end of that number, our friend and collaborator Brandon Walley is spearheading an awesome video documentary of 16 Detroit bands playing live back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back on June 11th at PJ’s Lager House.

The video is a riff on URGH! A Music War, which was a cult classic concert compilation of ’80s rock bands, some of which got huge. The idea is to capture a big slice of current Detroit bands all in one place and time and get it on record for posterity. He’s raising $5,000 to cover video and DVD production costs on LOVELAND’s Kickstarter. This is inchy’s closest proximity to being a music media mogul. /light’s cigar

And for the road, here’s an awesome song by Lightning Love, one of the bands who’ll be playing:
