Detroit Super Bowl Ad Remix: The Chrysler Cycle Featuring Creminem

Last night, Detroit and the internets blew up when a new Detroit-centric Chrysler ad featuring Eminem played during the Super Bowl. Fists were pumped, chips were dumped, and 180 characters were somehow squeezed into Twitter messages when people hung their eyeballs over this:

While I’d like to see Detroit stop threatening to punch other cities in the face and play nice in the greater American network, it’s obviously a great piece of advertising. But what most people didn’t see was this alternate version directed by artist Matthew Barney, famous for his Cremaster Cycle film series:

Barney was uniquely suited to the task as the Cremaster Cycle culminates inside the Chrysler Building, and his current project, Ancient Evenings, is partially set in Detroit (Metro Times article). Although his version didn’t air, Barney and Eminem are still tight. In fact, rumors are circulating about an upcoming collaboration dubbed, simply, Creminem.

Disclaimer: Not everything in this post is true. See the original Cremaster trailer here, sped up 75% but otherwise unedited in this post. :-)
