Kickstart “No Vacancy” by Hygienic Dress League

Check it out, here’s an amazing public art installation in Detroit that needs funding loving this week: “No Vacancy” by Hygienic Dress League.

You can read more about the project and HDL at that link, but check out what the piece will look like. We’re talking approximately 30’ wide x 9’ tall, all custom neon, powered by solar panels, on the side of a the Roosevelt Hotel, a great old empty building that’s poised to come back to life:

You don’t see stuff like this every day (actually, probably never) and it’s very technologically ambitious. Another group has come in to fund the remaining costs on top of the $5,000 LOVELAND is raising, and HDL is ready to install at the beginning of November.

The only curve ball is that the sign maaayyy end up on a different building, as ownership of the Roosevelt just changed hands. We’ll know the final answer on that shortly, but either way, she’ll be made and will be up in Detroit this year.

Here’s a classic picture of the Roosevelt back in the day compliments of Dan Austin at Buildings of Detroit. Let’s give this baby some new life!

Here’s the Kickstarter link again. Check it out and become a patron.
